Catriona (Triona) Watson is a certified British Horse Society (B.H.S.A.I.) and Pony Club Instructor who trained in Great Britain, Ireland and Germany. She has worked with Olympic Equestrian team members in 3-Day-Eventing, and has trained riders and horses from beginner through advanced level.
A former pupil represented Ireland in the Olympic Games at Barcelona. Her current students are winners at all levels.
During ten years in Ireland, Triona managed a 50 plus horse training facility in County Kildare, adjacent to the Irish National Stud, and a 400 acre thoroughbred breeding farm.
Triona moved from Ireland to the United States in 1980 and soon established a successful training centre in the Bay Area.
In 1996, the entire operation moved to Elk Grove.
Semi-retired, she still operates Epona Equestrians and trains riders to compete in hunter/jumpers, and dressage. Triona is happy to enroll a limited number of new students for private and semi-private lessons in English and Western riding. Triona’s unique approach to horse training and riding instruction earned her worldwide acclaim, and she developed several programs for English and Western riding styles as well as a popular camp program for school-age children. She also worked successfully with disadvantaged children, children with behavior problems, handicapped children and adults and has helped hundreds of nervous riders overcome their fears. Pee Wee Pony School, founded by Triona in 2003, helped introduce hundreds of youngsters to the wonderful world of the horse.
